11th December is celebrated as “World Mountain Day” each year. The purpose of celebrating this day is to arouse awareness about the significance of mountains in our environment. This year, the Alpine Club of Pakistan and Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) in collaboration with a number of adventure clubs and educational institutions of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, organized an event titled ‘Mountain Challenge’ on Trail-5 at Margalla Hills, Islamabad.
Students of grades IV and V of AlHuda International School, along with several other institutes of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, actively participated in the event held on Tuesday, 11th December 2012. The enthusiastic participants were engaged in various outdoor learning experiences including competitions and learning basic life skills such as confidence, problem solving, communication and creativity. The activities included pulley crossing, slack-lining, human knot, shrinking ship, balloon scramble, magic carpet, target dart, creative arts etc. The participants were divided into 6 teams, each team having ten members. Two of the AIS staff members served as judges for the event. AIS students thoroughly enjoyed the day packed with adventures and thrilling activities and were awarded with certificates of participation at the end of the event.
Founder “Adventure Academy” Saad Tariq Siddiqi welcomed and thanked all the participants and the organizers for their efforts. PTDC Managing Director; Shahjahan Khetran was the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony. Colonel (r) Manzoor Hussain (President Alpine Club), Saad Tariq Siddiqi (Founder Adventure Academy), Ali Usman (Founder Falcon Adventure Club), Amir Ali (from Eco Adventure Club), and Karrar Haidri (Member Executive Council ACP & Media Coordinator) were also part of the organizing team.
The success of the event was celebrated at the Media Center, Jinnah sports complex on 22nd December 2012. Participation in the Mountain challenge gave a wonderful opportunity to AIS students to be a part of adventure sports in Pakistan.
