Annual Computer Science Education Week is celebrated throughout the world in December.
The ‘Hour of Code’ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to computer programming.
At AIS Primary section, the Hour of Code event was conducted in last three weeks of November to join with 100 million people around the world. The purpose of this event was to teach basics of coding, problem solving, and sequencing in a fun way.
Coding or computer programming is part of computer science. Computer Science is an increasingly important area of study, relevant to technology, electronics, manufacturing, healthcare, science, education, architecture, transportation, food
production, and just about any other area you can think of.Code.org offers many tutorials to be conducted in schools in
order to promote problem solving and programming skills in children of all ages.
As part of the Hour of Code event, students were first given an introduction to the event in assembly with the help of an interesting presentation and inspiring video clips. They were motivated to learn more about computer science specifically coding/programming as in this way they would be able to make beneficial software for the humanity and contribute positively to the world.
Students solved interesting online puzzles and exercises fromcode.org during their computer studies classes in these
weeks. Alhamdulillah they showed keen interest in learning how to code, a field that we believe each child should be given an opportunity for.
