Harmoniously blending with the Islamic view of a child’s fitrah, the ‘Montessori method’ at AIS is an exceptional system of teaching characterized by independence, freedom of making choices, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development. This is a child-centered education that gives the child opportunities to utilize specially developed Montessori material, make discoveries in a structured environment herself, and develop beneficial social interaction skills in peer interactive activities.
At AIS, Montessori is a 3 year comprehensive program, which starts at the age of 2.8 and may go up to 6 years plus. From birth till the age of 6 is the ‘golden period’ for a child to learn, understand and grow. We use this golden period to make the children independent by giving them exposure to materials and experiences as well as steering them to the way of Islam. The program is uniquely designed to address the individual needs of each child such that he/she progresses according to his/her own pace. This ensures that the child is given ample time in the needed areas of development without undue pressure.

The following subjects are a part of the curriculum:
|Quran – Recitation and Memorization||Students learn the art of Recitation of the Holy Quran, memorize different surahs, learn ahadith and duas.|
|Arabic||Arabic is taught in a natural and effective manner. Being the language of the Qur’an, it holds great importance within the academic framework of our School. Arabic starts right from Montessori Junior level so that children can start putting it into practice by the time they reach the higher classes|
|English||Enabling students to communicate universally, the English language effectively flows throughout the School. A strong foundation is built right at the Montessori level, where children speak in English to communicate with one another and become quite fluent by the time they have to move on.|
|Urdu||Teachers employ different techniques and audio visual aids in order to form a strong foundation for Urdu in each child.|
|Math||Students are taught Math concepts with the help of Montessori material such as Cards and counters, Spindle Box, Number Rods etc.|
|Islamic Studies||Islamic Studies is taught in an engaging and interactive manner, through interactive sessions, projects and is reinforced through everyday practice. It is taught in a way which helps young develop a strong bond with Allah and love the beautiful Deen-e-Islam.|
|Culture||Children are given knowledge and exposure to Geography, History, Botany, Zoology, Science and Social Studies. Each subject is introduced in a way that makes the child connect to Allah and acknowledge His greatness.|
|Art||With a stimulating environment and artistic teachers, children are given ample opportunities of being creative. Painting, cutting, coloring, sticking, drawing etc- this and so much more helps the child develop lifelong skills in a fun way. Original pieces of art are always appreciated!|
|Exercises of Practical Life (EPL)||Exercises of practical life are geared to help child master coordination and become independent. Montessori teachers train the children to take care of themselves and their environment so that they become skilled to do everyday tasks on their own.|
|Exercises of Sensorial Development||Sensorial Exercises help in sharpening each of the senses of a child and enhance his/her mental development. The Montessori class environment is well equipped to provide valuable chances for a child to sharpen his/her senses and boost intelligence.|
|Physical Education||Sports are a regular feature where a sports teacher does various activities with young children such as races, hurdle games, cycling and P.T. All these help keep children fit, healthy and active.|
We adopt a child-centered approach in which children choose activities of their choice and work side by side with other children which enhances their social skills and helps gain confidence. We provide excellent opportunities of fun-filled, activity based learning, encouraging the children to do tasks on their own such as; taking worksheets and materials from the shelves, putting their bags in their cupboards, taking and using placements at the lunch time.
The Montessori Environment
AIS Montessori is a specially prepared
environment to ensure rapid and maximal development of the children. Children have access to complete range of high quality Montessori material. The school has an excellent learning environment based on the values of Islam; which inspires, guides and celebrates effort and achievement. The School promotes healthy eating habits, concept of sharing and mutual respect.
With two teachers in each class, we have a remarkably low student to teacher ratio of 6:1 which helps us give individual attention to each child. Teachers inculcate Islamic values into everyday life and teaching. They encourage questions, inspire creativity and ensure every learner experiences success Insha’Allah.
Library Time for Montessori
At AIS, library time is fun and a lot of learning; with a focus on listening, reading, and speaking.
Children enjoy wonderful Story Time, they have Reading Program through A-Z website, as well as Buddy Reading and individualized leveled reading program. Please see the library program for more details.
At AIS, the children’s progress is closely monitored
by class teachers, subject teachers and the Section Head. Daily behavior reports help in the assessment of the weak areas of each child and the teachers work to overcome them. Remedial programs are carried out for the children who require special attention in certain academic areas. If required, problems are discussed with parents so that they can also play a positive role in helping their child cope. Report cards are sent to the parents at the end of each term.
Grades are given to Montessori students to document mastery and application of skills and concepts. The following developmental scale is used to describe student’s progress in all areas
|A: Always||Child is working confidently & independently|
|M: Mostly||Child is showing expected growth|
|R: Requires Assistance||Child requires additional assistance|
The evaluation of student progress, which culminates in an achievement indicator on the report card, is a continuous process involving many observed and evaluated activities.
