Dry fruits! Loved and eaten with relish by all during the winter season.
This February, AIS Montessori students had a healthy dry fruit activity in their Kitchen Corner Activity for which they are always eager. It was fascinating as well as informative for them to discover different kinds of nuts such as cashew nuts, peanuts, walnuts, pine nuts, apricots, dates, pistachios, almonds, raisins and figs. Most of the students were really surprised to see dried fruits such as pineapples, kiwi fruit, melon and water melon. Teachers told the students that Allah subhana-wa-tallah has kept a special ability in these fruits that these can be dried and later preserved for long periods of time and they also contain nutrients specially required in winters to keep us warm and healthy. Teachers explained the health aspects of consuming dry fruits and being grateful to Allah subhana-wa-tallah for providing us with such nourishing food.
After being familiarized with the new vocabulary of the dry fruit, students washed their hands, wore aprons and caps. They then, with the help of their teachers sorted and arranged the dry fruits beautifully in trays and bowls. They also counted the quantities of each dry fruit, as they were smart enough to use their mathematical skills.
Teachers and students added a variety to this activity by making a dry fruit salad also. They mixed all the dry fruits in cream to make delicious dry fruit salad. At the end our sweet little kids enjoyed eating salad and dry fruits with their friends and shared it with aya bajis and gatekeepers.
