The AIS library is a central place for learning, discovery, appreciating innovation and problem solving. It is well equipped for both the teachers and the students where they are facilitated to the best for research, lesson plans and assignments. AIS library is not just about taking a book off the shelf and reading it; in fact it is much more. The environment itself is stimulating and encourages the students to love, respect and value books.
AIS library is managed according to international standards of book classification and arrangement under the Dewy Decimal System, DDC, a proprietary library classification system which is being used in 200,000 libraries in more than 135 countries. An exclusive Library Management System allows for quick and easy access to books in the library.
The library staff is trained regularly on library sciences and related subjects by internationally qualified librarians and trainers.
The library plays an important part in the life of an AIS student. AIS conducts the following activities as part of its library program:

- Research work, subject and class teachers
- Wordless books
- Browse the Internet
- Reading A-Z word worksheets
- Crafts, Book marks, Posters, Leaflets etc.
- Scrap Books
- Co and extracurricular activities such as debates, drama, Nasheeds etc.
AIS Reading Program
The AIS Reading Programs is a special, individually administered assessment of students’ reading ability. Starting from Montessori, the reading program helps students reach and maintain the acquired fluency level in English.
Every student is assessed weekly with his/her current leveled reader. Once a student has read the book thoroughly, he/she is promoted to the next stage. A teacher in the library reads one to one with the students where they are given incentives for successfully reaching targets of each stage. Insha’Allah we plan to follow this program for all three languages taught in the school.
Leveled Reading for Montessori Section
- Phonics recognition is ensured before a child starts to read with the teacher.
- Beginners are given “Jolly phonics Read and See” readers which contain a hidden picture along with every word. This helps the child to guess and recognize the letters by looking at the picture.
- The child is taught to blend the sounds of the letters in order to read the word.
- The parents read to their child at home and the child reads back to them.
- Once children are fully capable of recognizing and blending the sounds, they are promoted to the next level which contains readers from “Read and Write Inc. phonics”.
- These readers help the child understand speed sounds, read consonants and vowels and how to say the words which do not connect phonetically.
A child is then capable of reading short stories written in the book all by himself.
Leveled Reading for Junior Section
Children are provided with the readers according to their capability of recognition and reading. Each child individually reads to the teacher from those readers and an assessment report is prepared on weekly basis. Children are given a target of finishing 40 books in each term and those reaching the target are awarded the highest achiever’s certificate.
Students facing difficulty in reading are specially assisted by the teachers within and after their library period. Reading strategies are planned for such students in order to make them capable of reading as quickly as possible.
- Overdue fine is Rs. 10 per day after the three day grace period
- Lost books will have to be paid for in full, with no exceptions
- Damaged books will have to be paid for in full
- Unpaid library fines may result in withdrawal to library privileges
- Children must have a pass/note to use the library during class hours
- Reading bags must be sent back on the due date
