Last week, Montessori students of F-8 and H-11 campuses enjoyed making sandwiches as part of their Kitchen Corner Activity. In this activity, the bright students got an opportunity peel boiled eggs, slice fresh cucumbers and mash & mix the ingredients in mayonnaise to prepare the batter. They helped their teachers in washing the salad leaves and unwrapping the cheese slices. They were inquisitive and asked questions to know more. They worked their way through making the sandwiches eager to be first amongst peers.
The Junior Montessori students were given more assistance. Their delight was in helping the adults by making batter which was done confidently. They enjoyed spreading it on the slices and were confident that they can teach their mothers too. While Senior Montessori students had a go in cutting the bread slices , the students of Advance Montessori surprised us with their innovative ideas while they tried out different combinations for making sandwiches.
In this activity, the bread and mayonnaise were provided by the School, whereas parents were asked to send just one of the ingredients such as boiled eggs, cucumber, a slice of cheese or salad leaves. The teachers made special efforts for integrating the activity with Islamic ethics and teaching the students about the nutritious value of sandwiches, encouraging them to bring healthy home made lunch and teaching them the art of food presentation as well as etiquettes of serving.
